Clever Geek Of The Week

Man Flying To Europe With Helium Balloons Gives Up After Just 563km - Gizmodo Australia

So what is the best response to a feat that has never been accomplished and has so far claimed 5 lives?  Obviously try it yourself.

It was with this attitude that Jonathan Trappe decided to set out to cross the Atlantic Ocean supported by 370 helium filled balloons.

He had planned for a 3 to 6 day journey but after technical issues caused him to gain and lose altitude on a regular, and rapid, basis he decided to abandon the effort 12 hours in, and still in North America.

Flying long distances being supported by what are essentially party balloons may be quite the romantic ideal, but it appears that any flights should probably remain within the realms of old Looney Tunes cartoons and Pixar movies.

Mr Trappe, you get some bonus points for pulling the plug before it was too late but you still are this week's Clever Geek Of The Week.
