RIP Online Pass?

EA has announced that they are eliminating the much criticised online pass system on all their games.  Does this mean the end of convoluted codes to access on-disc content and having to pay more to have access to all the features of a pre-owned game?  I doubt it.

What seems like an act of mercy from one of the most maligned publishers may actually be more like a shift of attention.  With Microsoft confirming that the Xbox One games will require installation of games, with a PC style CD-Key system, and has the capacity to refuse to play a pre-owned game until the new owner pays a licence fee it seems the "Online Pass" has become a standard system feature.

Also remember that one of the big announcements at the recent Xbox launch was a special partnership between Microsoft and EA Sports.

No one has had any luck getting a straight answer out of Sony about pre-owned games on the PS4.  They have confirmed you can play them but who knows what restrictions may be in place.

EA does seem to be making an effort to improve their image however only time will tell if they are just distracting you with one hand while the other still tries to pick your pocket.
