Clever Geek Of The Week

Asiana may sue TV station and NTSB over fake pilot names prank - Herald Sun

Yet another TV network in the US has come to the forefront for some astounding journalism.  After the terrible Asiana Airlines accident, which killed 3 people, KTUV-TV in San Francisco announced that a source within the National Transportation Safety Board had confirmed the names of the pilots.

The anchor proceeded to read them, on air, with the following text appearing...

Captain Sum Ting Wong
Wi Tu Lo
Ho Lee Fuk
Bang Ding Ow

... yep, this really happened.

I really don't know what else I can say about this, the sheer gullibility of the team who preps, proofs and verifies this stuff obviously know nothing about the sort of stuff that regularly gets sent through on letters to the editor.  They didn't release the name of the source but I'm guessing it was "Hugh Janus".

So to all the crew at KTUV-TV, you hold the honour of being this weeks "Clever Geeks of the Week".
