Movie Review - The Hangover Part III

This is a bit of a tricky movie to review,  technically it's a comedy but seems to want to present itself as more an action drama with comedy moments.  It makes no difference to the overall outcome of this review, but it does establish a problem that presents itself very early in the movie which is, no matter which way you choose to approach it, The Hangover Part III just doesn't work.

The movie sees the Wolf Pack re-united to take Alan () to rehab after an incident with a giraffe.  They are well on their way to a treatment centre when they are run off the road and Doug () is then taken captive by Las Vegas gangster, Marshall (), who blames them for a heist gone wrong since they are the ones who inadvertently set Chow () loose back in part 1.  It's up to Alan, Stu () and Phil () to capture Chow before Marshall kills Doug.

What follows is a not so madcap adventure that takes them south of the border trying to track down Chow, that ultimately takes the story full circle and sees the Wolf Pack ultimately return to Las Vegas in a race against time to save their friend.

There are plenty of references to the first two movies so if you haven't seen them some of the gags will go over your head.  It won't matter since you wouldn't laugh at them anyway, I just thought you should know.  Most of the traditional "extreme" situations are tiresome and predictable with most of the only notable moments featuring Chow who turns out to be the only saving grace of this piece.

Referring back to my opening point, it really seems that the makers wanted to create a tense, action film and added "comedy" bits to the mix to make it a Hangover movie.  This film only got a couple of brief snorts out of me and certainly did not deliver any big laughs.

If you are a completist and have already seen 1 and 2 then I guess you'll be seeing this regardless but I certainly cannot recommend this movie in anyway.  It turns out to be a slightly less than average drama flick set up to link the jokes together.  If you want to laugh yourself silly at a Hangover film, go watch number 1 again.  This one is so much of a non-event I can't even work myself up into my usual sarcastic mocking self for this review.

In a word - Meh
